Being Diverse in Video Production

We have #blogged about it on our site before but we feel it's such a necessity in today's video marketing landscape to be a 'multi-threat' when it comes to video production.  Online video is so common place today and if you are serious about it there is a huge market to tap into.

What we mean by that is if you are focusing on doing video production, not Movies or TV shows, just video production why would you pigeon hole yourself by only knowing how to do one job?  That makes no sense to us and we've preached this many times over the years to many different people.  Hopefully it's sunk in for a few.

By this we mean learn to go out and shoot, write, light, sound, direct, music, edit, etc.  We are not saying you have to master every area of those fields but if you know how to do each of these it makes you a bigger threat and it will open up many more doors for those who are serious about making a living from video production.

One of our biggest weaknesses is lighting so that's something we've tried to study and get better at over the years.  If the budget allows for it on a particular job then a good grip/lighting person is the first person we hire out.   With that being said we've put in the work to get better at that skill and all the other skills necessary to provide our clients with the highest quality end product at the most reasonable budget we can manage.

Again if you are serious about making a living out of video production then you are going to have to put in the work of becoming better in the fields you might not be that strong in.  It's not going to happen over night and you have to be persistent but if you work hard and you believe in yourself and your abilities to tell a story then you can accomplish anything.  We are living proof of it.
