Stumbled across this gem on filmmaking/editing on youtube earlier today. Obviously it wasn't shot yesterday and filmmaking has changed so much since Hitchcock made films but boy is it neat to hear one of the pioneers of film talk about a very important aspect of filmmaking #editing. If you're an aspiring editor or want to learn different aspects in making #movies, #commercials, #music videos, web #videos, etc. please take some time out to watch this not just once but several times over and absorb it. Would've been really cool to be on a set with Alfred Hitchcock and glad he took the time to sit down and talk about his craft on #camera.

We shot a new TV commercial last week for a Med Spa and turned the final project around in a day. They gave us a lot of creative control and were extremely happy with the way the final cut turned out. The commercial called for a #English #Bulldog and we were lucky enough to find a cool, cool dog named Chubs. He breathed really heavy and slobbered every where so that presented a bit of a problem but at the end of the day we got what we needed out of him. Please contact us for unique TV commercials that are guaranteed to get your business noticed by potential clients. #film #movies #TVCommercials We released the new series 'A Week With Mark' last night on youtube, Facebook, etc. It's about Mark Darby Robinson, a simple man who doesn't take himself or life to seriously. He also happens to be a brilliant actor. There have been some rumblings that this series was made to 'exploit' or 'pick on' this man, well we are hear to tell you that couldn't be farther from the truth. We have known this man for over 12 years and care more about him as a person than about any body else in our lives. He is goofy, quirky, odd, weird.....all of those things but first and foremost he's a good person and our sole purpose of this series (which was going to be a documentary but evolved into the web series) was to preserve who Mark Robinson is for all of time to know. He's very proud of this first episode and has our blessing to continue to produce these episodes. They may not always make the most sense but they will be entertaining. So go on over the Film/Web Series section here or go to aweekwithmark.com and take a look at the first episode. Feel free to comment or support in any way possible. #film #tv #movies #moviemaking #filmmaker #lights #camera #action
Orange St Films has created a #new web-series called 'A Week with Mark'. It's about Mark Darby Robinson, an actor who lives in Wilmington, North Carolina. We've worked with Mark on many, many projects over the years and felt like his life and his story needed to be told. He is very unique, odd, goofy......well we could use a thousand different verbs to describe him. That's one of the main reasons we wanted to do the series. We wanted to preserve his unique life and to show how talented he really is. I've had numerous people say to me that they thought he was just some bum walking the streets of Wilmington and little do they know what he's accomplished over the years. With that being said our goal with 'A Week with Mark' is to open the world's eyes to show who Mark Darby Robinson truly is. So we will release the first episode tonight on www.aweekwithmark.com and also on the youtube channel we created for the web series youtube.com/aweekwwithmark Below is an old trailer we cut several months back. We will post the series in a blog tomorrow The weather is changing, well depending on where you live, the leaves are changing colors and its getting darker a little earlier each day. That's right people....welcome to fall. One of our favorite times of the year. We're not called Orange LEAF Films for nothing......wait, we are #OrangeStFilms not Orange Leaf Films. Got a little carried away with excitement at first. We do love this time of year here at the company, probably most of our team's favorite time of the year. Random blog post, we know but oh well, what ya going to do? So sit back, grab a pumpkin spice latte and enjoy some football.....or whatever it is that tickles your fancy.
So how many people out there upgraded their #iPhone's to the new #iOS7 operating system? We did it yesterday afternoon and are really digging the layout and smarts that Apple has put into this upgrade. From iPads to iPhones it is very cool and change is good in our eyes. A lot of people are scared of change but if you want to move forward in life you have to embrace change because well you know.....change is inevitable. We at Orange St Films are still very big advocates of #Apple and are not giving up on them (although they've given up on the Final Cut Pro studio software, haha). So anyways this #blogpost is going nowhere fast so we are going to go ahead and get on out of here. By the way if you are on Instagram find our company and give us a follow if you'd like.....if not that's okay too. Have a great day.......here's a link in case you change your mind.
http://instagram.com/orangestfilms Let us preface this by saying that having a full crew on shoots is a very good thing. But with that being said we feel like every aspiring filmmaker should learn how to do almost every aspect of producing a video, commercial, movie, etc. It's all relative. We've preached this for years and feel like you are doing yourself and your craft an injustice by at least not trying to learn the different fields of #production. You don't have to be great at all the different jobs in #videoproduction but you are much more of a threat if you gain a little knowledge of #writing, #directing, doing #camera, #lighting, #sound, #editing, #colorcorrection, #music, #exporting, etc. It's taken us years to learn the different aspects and we still have a long way to go but learning to do the different jobs have helped us cut down on costs leading to keeping our clients budgets lower.....which is a very good thing when you are making a living out of video production. It may seem overwhelming but it's really not, if you are just willing to learn. Plus it allows you to see the entire production in your head from start to finish and when you get to that point in your filmmaking career that's a very good feeling. So by learning the different jobs on sets it allows you to be more reliable and credible when you are on a bigger budget set and you are able to know a little something about others jobs on that particular production. Stay humble, work hard, learn, always be hungry, and be ready when those bigger jobs come your way.
We said a week or so ago that we were going to post some old #videos on our blog to show off some of our work that never really got seen.......still may not if no one reads this blog, haha. Anyways every year, over the last few years, Doritos puts on a commercial contest for a 30 second ad for the SuperBowl and the winner gets their commercial shown during the big game. A couple years ago we decided to produce a few spots and really did them on a whim. We didn't give them much thought and really just did the #commercials for fun in our spare time. So we used the talents of the great #MarkRobinson to be our main actor in the 3 spots and we had a really good time shooting and editing these. They are not much and are out there but take a minute to look at them and please share any feedback. We'd really love to hear it. Video is more powerful than you may think. About a year ago Orange St Films was lucky enough to work with an amazing organization out of Virginia Beach, VA called Wounded Wear. The founder, Jason Redman, is a true American hero in every sense of the word. He's a former Navy Seal who was severely injured in a firefight in Iraq in 2007. He made a remarkable recovery and is a inspiration to all those he comes in contact with. Orange St FIlms has been fortunate enough to work with Jason and his lovely wife Erica on several different video projects but today we wanted to post a video we did about a year ago telling the story of Jason and Wounded Wear and another amazing American hero named Tyler Southern. It was a true honor of ours to be in these mens' presence and we are extremely humbled and blessed for the opportunity to work with them and more so for the sacrifice they've made for our country. So please take a minute to view the Wounded Wear video and feel free to comment and like. #Youtube or #Vimeo? We ask a lot of our clients if they've heard of the #video sharing site vimeo and surprisingly a lot of people still haven't heard of vimeo. It's been around for a few years now but we look at as a higher end/more #professional version of youtube. We love youtube and build many of our clients #youtube pages but there are so many pluses to using #vimeo over youtube. First, if you choose, you can automatically have your videos play in #HighDefinition in vimeo but in youtube you have to change the grind gear at the bottom right corner to play in HighDef and I'd dare to say that 80% of people watching youtube don't know to do that or don't bother to change the quality. For a professional video company it is very important that our work be viewed in the highest quality possible. Second, if you watch the same video on your smart phone on youtube and then watch it on vimeo it's night and day. The #video on youtube is grainy and digitized and the video on vimeo is crystal clear. Third, if you are a vimeo Pro member, you can customize the elements around your video and even take the Vimeo logo off if you want. That way #clients and #businesses can embed the video on their site and it look like it's a part of their website and not hosted by a third party site. Don't get me wrong #YouTube is the king and I'm a big advocate of youtube but I'm also a huge fan of #Vimeo and I love what they are doing and the way they do business. I guess it's a personal preference but I advise using both sites to host your videos.
